Yes I know the Dallol measurements were only for 6 years, but if anything, it must have got hotter by now. When I visited the area, I remember it hitting 51C around two times (I went in May) but it was mainly at 46-8C the majority of the time. It cooled down quite a bit in the evening.

Death Valley for me. The other options are either too hot or too cold. Death Valley is at least pleasant for the cooler half of the year.

Oh wow, it's great to finally have a member who has actually been there. Please tell us more about your experience. It's interesting that you say it cooled off quickly in the evening. Was it very humid?

Yes! It was a very humid place. The worst part was finding shade was a big problem, the sun was extremely strong there and it sort of made your eyes ache spending so much time walking. The coldest night was about 26C and the high that day was around 45C. The hottest day was around 51C but the low that day was still around 28C. 28C might seem a bit too hot but it was quite refreshing. I think as long as you have tonnes of water, and a lot of shady clothes, it is an amazing place to be. Unfortunately, even if you were carrying a 10Litre bottle of water, by the time you needed to drink it, the sun would have made the water hot. So it wasn't very nice to drink.
The best part was the Camel trains and the journey there. You literally went from a city in Ethiopia with highs of 28C (Mekele), to a place where the highs were lows. It was incredible!

I was just thinking that. Mekele looks like an incredibly equable climate: Mek'ele - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think Semera, Asayta and Dubti are the hottest inhabited places in Ethiopia. At the moment, Semera has highs of 41C, Dubti 40C and Asayta 38.

Right now in Danakil, it is 43C with lows of 33C, and its not even summer yet

Death Valley is the lesser of the three evils, with at least providing 4 months of relief.
