Visible breath can happen at times in the summer here. Very rare, but it isn't "unseen" of.
I'm over cold summer nights, 3C and 4C summer nights are just nonsense. Had to put up with a 1C night last summer.

Yeah, 1C-5C is too much for summer. And I never knew that Nelson would see such lows in the summer, considering its proximity to the ocean. Heck, some NZ cities barely reach that low in the winter.

Are you inland or at a high altitude?

Oceanic influence is interesting in that it reduces winter cold, but accentuates summer cold

Nelson has minimums about 2C warmer than Motueka during summer, but also maximums about 1.5C cooler than Motueka. I'm about 35 km NW of Nelson and the local weather station is 8m above sea level , and 1 km from the sea. Lowest temperature last summer was 0.6C.

Even worse down south, where we spend a few weeks each summer.. The coldest town in the area, had a summer minimum air temperature of -4.1C, although that is nearly 300m above sea level. The town (Ophir) had below freezing nights each month in summer, even with an average summer maximum of 24.5C

Nearby Alexandra (110m) managed a 26.5C average summer maximum, with one month having a minimum below OC, and the other two months having below 1C minimums.

That's pesky cold, in anyone's books.
