Which climate would you choose as the lesser of the two evils?
Oymyakon, Russia with the most brutally coldest winters in the permanently inhabited world but a decent amount of sunshine and even some daylight during the winter (despite the -60 F temperatures on a regular basis) and warm summer days (reaching at least room temperature most days) although the nights are crisp and chilly
Barrow, Alaska with winter temperatures not quite as cold as Oymyakon but a lot less sunshine (the sun remains below the horizon for over 2 months) and a lot windier. The so called summers are very anemic, chilly, and windy but offer 24 hours of daylight for nearly 4 months. Reaching a high of room temperature is a once in ten year event with most days topping out in the 40s F.
Oymyakon since it has a summer. I would rather take a -50°C+ low in winter and have a warmish summer, then having cold weather year round, even though i (moderately) cold weather i would not be able to take such weather even in midsummer. So clearly Oymyakon wins.
I wonder what Barrow's average "feels like" temperature in winter is given that it's almost always pretty most of the time year round while Oymyakon mostly has calm wind conditions. Would -20 F and a steady 20 mph wind all the time with occasional gusts of 40 + mph (under total darkness) feel colder than -50 F and sunny with no wind?
Barrow. Still snowing there. Snowing there right now according to Weather Underground. Oymyakon has a more interesting climate, I suppose. But winters are far too cold. Barrow has the benefit of longer, milder winters.
That's a very tough call. Winters are brutal in Oymyakon but summers are brutal in Barrow. I would have to choose Oymyakon because at least it has a summer.

I would choose Oymyakon because it has warmer summers while Barrow can have snowfall at anytime of the year, even in July.
