I'll take being "fooled by data" over waiting for a cold epoch to end to judge day-to-day livability.

Besides, a lot of the US south is also too hot in the summer months. East coast Australia is more moderate year-round.

The US South is a lot warmer than it is appearing on the data. Just throwing that out there.

The coastal areas of the South aren't that hot during summer months, and are moderate year-round as well, just like coastal East Australia.

You mean the Gulf Coast or the West Coast?

Because the coastal south (or the Gulf Coast) gets 31C-33C heat in the summer, unlike most of Australia's lower east coast (which rarely averages over 28C). Look at New Orleans for instance.

Myrtle Beach.

Less chance of extreme heat in the summer, greater chance of snow in the winter, more precipitation that is spread more evenly.

I think you might be confusing monthly mean temps and daily highs.

In the warmest month mean temperatures in Myrtle Beach are 26.4C (79.6 F)…and the daily highs during that month (July) are 30 C (87 F). Monthly mean temps/and daily highs in most of eastern subtropical Australia (places like Brisbane, Gold Coast,...etc) in the hottest months are roughly the same. Brisbane has a January mean temp of 25.5 C (78F) with a daily high of 30.2 C (86 F):

I think the difference is more once you get way down into the deep south of America (like New Orleans, Galveston, Jacksonville, Savannah…etc),you need to go a bit more towards the equator in eastern Australia to find cities equally has hot in summer. Tropical Townsville has a monthly mean temp of 27.7 F (82 F) in the hottest month (Jan)…just about the same as subtropical New Orleans with a monthly mean temp of 28.3 C (83 F):

I wasn't.

I always go by monthly highs. I never go by monthly mean.

I was actually comparing America's south coast to Australia's lower half eastern coast (from Taree down to Bega). The person I was replying to said that the South Coast isn't that hot when, compared to our East Coast, it kinda is. Remember, going by the monthly summer highs of course...
