via the Mt. Washington Observatory. Bike race at the summit:
Ever wonder what it's like racing a bike up 4600 vertical feet of mountain road? We enjoyed watching the top finishers for the Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb this morning who did just that! This is a picture of the first place finisher, making it to the summit in under an hour!
That's an impressive climb! Don't want his legs tomorrow though
Today also was the third leg of Arctic Race of Norway, probably the worlds northernmost. Finished at a plateau 400 m asl at 70 N today: Stage 3 - Alta > Kvænangsfjellet - Arctic Race of Norway 2014
Tomorrow finish (and start) will be in Tromsø, final leg.
Yep, your photos looked familiar. I bet the climates are pretty similar. Though the sun must feel stronger here at 42°N. The snow patch was around the altitude of the summit of the Galdhøpiggen. Then again I saw snow at 1,800 m / 6,000' today, surrounded by trees. Strange as the treeline on north-facing slopes is aound 2,400 m. Looked like the remnants of an avalanche.
Btw, can't see most photos with the slow internet. I understand Joe's pain.
Man, I love August and September. These gorgeous clouds keep rolling by, I must stop every few hundred meters to snap pictures. The return of cold weather sure is easy on the eyes.
As for daylight hours, it's still not very dark at 10 PM.
