Why is the soil in Florida like sand? Looking on street view and google earth and the soil is very yellow/sandy which is quite odd as Florida has a wet tropical climate.

Best story I heard came from my brother inlaws father. He has a condo in Florida with views of a golf course.

He said he got so much rain one time that it flooded the complex and the golf course where it was under water by several feet. He looked out his window normally sees the golf greens but everything was underwater.

Couple days later he woke up, looked out the window... the water was gone! That was a great story.
Soil is Sand it drains away fast. Plus I'm sure some receeded back out.

Isn't that because Florida is actually really young and it wasn't time to create good soils? I was surprised that so wet climate has mostly pine trees... And is smetimes cut by densier hammocks near rivers where soil seems to be better.

I think if we would leave this land for some time (like couple of million years), Florida would look something like south Japan.

Yes I didn't expect sandy soils in a wet area

South Florida does average over 10 inches more rain annually. Pretty sure that's all landscaped though in WPB.
