Ive got a question about the Koppen classification (csb) of the Southern California mountains such as Big Bear, Idyllwild, and even Lake Tahoe, classified as "Warm Summer Mediterranean" by Koppen. I was just curious as to why. Does anyone know? I know that many years for example communities such as Idyllwild can get some snowless years, like this one. Like this year, Michigan was quite a bit colder than Idyllwild was when I arrived ths spring. But the mountain communities usually get a lot more rain than the lower elevations and in most years at least some snowfall even as late as June. Even now some places in Big Bear are hitting the 30s overnight this late in the year. Does everyone think the med designation is accurate or just laziness on Koppen's part basing on latitude and proximity to Los Angeles. Big Bear has never reached 100°F for example. Granted on the summer solstice it failed to reach 70 here in Michigan while Im certain Big Bear was at least in the 70s or 80s. Anyway just wondering.
