Don't know about Australia but for Germany the figures do look right.
Looks like they get the data from the corrosponding National Weather Services, which is in that case the DWD.

It says that the UK has been up to 40C... Interactive Map of United Kingdom Record High and Low Temperatures

Here's another inaccuracy... click on the blue record low button on the top left corner. Notice that Ashcroft has been -64F. This is totally bunk. http://www.plantmaps.com/british-col...rature-map.php

That map of high temperatures seemed accurate until I read underneath, that 40C in Scotland is obviously wrong.. also missing a 37C near Cheltenham and the stations are wrong..

Also it shows our first frost date as being late September when it is actually usually mid-late November

I looked to see what the high was on 8th August 1975 at Gatwick, and it says 39c with rain, thunderstorms and a 60km/h gust! The day before had a high of 33c, the day after just 22c, so I'm guessing it should read 29c, not 39c.

Looking at some other stations for that day...

Heathrow
7th Aug 1975: 33/17, sunny
8th Aug 1975: 34/19, thunderstorms
9th Aug 1975: 26/16, thunderstorms

London Weather Centre
7th Aug 1975: 32/20, sunny
8th Aug 1975: 32/21, thunderstorms
9th Aug 1975: 24/17, thunderstorms

Interesting, London Weather Centre recorded a minimum of 23.7C on 10th August 2003, isn't that a record high minimum for August? If so then why is that not used, is LWC an official station? Also I heard that it is still in operation but under a different name..

The record high minimum UK temperature is 23.9C, recorded in Brighton in August 1990, that's why the LWC figure isn't used. And the station has been closed down...

Ah OK, thought that one was in July!

It's a shame that it closed down.. probably was actually the most representative station for London, along with Camden Square station..

To answer the OP's actual question - those high temps are very accurate. Many occured during the extreme heat wave of January 2013. There were devasting wildfires in southeastern Tasmania during January and February of that year.

As for the low temperatures, accurate as well. As you can see, even Southern Australia doesn't get very cold during the winter months (June, July, August).
