Nearly 9,000 gun murders a year in the US, compared with about 60 here.

Yet gun nuts and right wing nutters in the US insist on keeping the death penalty and having the right to own firearms..

The reality is the US is a blood hungry country and most people view the death penalty as an appropriate punishment.

The death penalty exists so the general public can seek vengeance and feel better about themselves. That person killed a guy - EXECUTE HIM NOW! An eye for an eye! Blah blah. Which is funny, because a lot of people who are relatives of murdered people actually forgive the killers and don't support the death penalty.

Getting good mental healthcare costs a fortune here. Most of these criminals have a tipping point, which made them do such horrific things. Psychologically unstable people need to be tamed & treated in mental hospitals early enough, and not be let out in the real world to do all this kind of stuff. I'm happy to know most european countries provide reasonable mental healthcare facilities at an affordable price.

Address that problem then. State-sanctioned killing doesn't solve anything. It might make you feel a little better about yourself, but ultimately nothing changes.

Chop chop - lots of work to do!

It really is an ancient principle, isn't it? The victim doesn't gain anything back from the murderer being killed. Pointless killing.

I would reckon support for the death penalty there is at least 25%. I have no idea what the actual number is, but I'm sure support for the death penalty is not "extremely rare" there.

Sadly, it all ends with the talk, study, and more talk when it comes to providing viable services. Well, at last we have legalized gay marriage so thats a step forward .

Um, what? Houston has one of the highest murder rates in this country and Texas is about middle of the pack when it comes to murders. Louisiana has by far the highest murder rate in this country and it has the death penalty, along with other southern states that are all in the top 15. Did you even bother to look this up?

Iowa has the lowest murder rate in the US and hasn't had death penalty since 1965. Where are you getting your facts from? Why are you trying to so hard to act like a typical Southerner?
