Started to play Simcity 4 again after a long time, but on a new strategy. Previously I tried to make a city with different "layers", but that didn't work. In an "old town" district filled with narrow windling small streets doesn't work, the algorithm just causes too long commuting times despite all measures, and the districts I want to become the wealthiest becomes abandoned. So wide avenues all the way is go. A pure grid pattern is boring, so I have a lot of narrow neighbourhood side streets, but still close to the avenues. I still am in the very beginning, but try to make a diverse and variable city, and have to plan the whole transport/commuting way ahead in large lines, and focus on details more. So here it how it looks:
Nothing spectacular, but taking shape. A lot will change, but I'll do my best to plan enough ahead so not to destroy existing wealthy development too much (a mistake I did before in my last city). I'm making around 5k plus a month, so have the possibility of taking a 400k loan without going on deficit. Will help a lot.
I use to love that game but because I upgraded my computer the game stopped working.
When I get my laptop next year I will buy the newest version of simcity!
I've finally fixed my sleeping pattern I fell asleep way before 6am (12.30am to be exact) and I'm up! Just need to keep to this by getting up by my alarm clock.

This brings backs memories. Fortunately no one lives on the left bank of the river. One can see the brown waters and filthy air. As if it wasn't enough, I see a big prison, plus a casino on the other side of the city. I'm sure you hid the military base and toxic waste landfill somewhere outside the screenshot. Enjoying the $$$, you greedy planner?
I need to play that game again problem is, I have the discs, but the disc drive on my laptop burned out, so I can't install it. I could never get past 150,000 people in my cities without encountering major problems concerning abandoned neighborhoods and businesses because commute times are too long, and not enough traffic to my business districts. Needless to say, I build pretty American-centric. I don't mix residential and commercial, and public transportation is lacking, but I make extensive use of elevated highways and avenues yep, you can tell I was raised in the US with that kind of gameplay strategy
I have it all mixed up, usually even the same block has both commercial and residental, as Yurop has. The last city I built last year got around 290k population before coming to a full halt.

No, nobody lives there, and in time I will demolish that heavy industry and try to attract more high-tech industry. Yes. Enjoying the money. I have both the mayor's house AND a downloaded mayor's villa! There's also a toll booth after the bridge to give even more €€€. Now I sound like a Russian oligarch. I need money for the university and education. The toxic dump and military base I declined.
I lost the CD for many games, but i'll just try and get the crack online for the games.. after all if I have bought the game in the past, that seems fair!

Good, the mayor's villa. Now plan an Astana-like monumental boulevard with huge statues of the mayor at each end! Oh, I forgot about the missile launch site. That was the most profitable one IIRC. That is, unless there's an accident.
Before demolishing heavy industry, I used to gradually increase the taxes to the maximum bracket and destroy the abandoned factories. I think after a while my central city was 100% commercial with no industry whatsoever, including high tech.

No, my city will have style. Have a lot of downloaded buildings from Parfffff, like from the Avenue d'Opéra and one inspired from the mall, what was the name? Printemps! Also have German, Swedish, Finnish and Dutch inspired buildings. A lot.
I set an "environment tax" on heavy industry, with lower tax rates for hi-tech, but it's not the time for that yet.
Going to Portsmouth on Friday...with a really hot guy.
Thats definitely something to be happy about
