Lol you are right. It is below average for us (avg is 75/58F right now), and below average for you in the winter.

My cousins that grew up in Hollywood, FL loved the winter, though they wouldn't go swimming in the ocean then. They thought it was too cold. They didn't even go to the beach in the winter or at least not often. I remember my aunt standing outside the front of her house surrounded by big palm trees on her street in the middle of January, and she was literally rubbing her arms and shivering on a cloudy, windy 70F day. I had left 18F at Philly airport that morning so it felt balmy to me.

For those that don't think we need weather models.... or don't understand how weather changes in such short time....

NWS NY Yesterday

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
702 AM EDT MON SEP 22 2014

STRONG HIGH PRESSURE WILL PROVIDE THE REGION WITH FAIR AND DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH THE MAJORITY OF THE LONG TERM PERIOD.

THINKING THE HIGH WILL BE STRONG ENOUGH TO KEEP THE PRECIPITATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LOW SOUTH OF THE REGION.

------------------------------------

NWS NY Today

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
357 PM EDT TUE SEP 23 2014

ALL TRENDS HAVE BEEN FOR A WET FORECAST FROM THURSDAY INTO AT LEAST THURSDAY NIGHT AND HAVE INCREASED POPS TO LIKELY.

It got cooler than expected this morning. Alexandria Int'l Airport recorded a low of 54 F (12.2 C). Tonight is forecast to go down to 56 F (13.3 C).

Rain chances are on the rise for the weekend with moisture coming up from the Gulf of Mexico.

NWS Boston on the coastal storm then says something about great weather?

THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT...

PRETTY MUCH ALL OF OUR MODELS EXCEPT FOR THE UKMET HAVE TRENDED
SIGNIFICANTLY FURTHER NORTH WITH OCEAN STORM THU/THU NIGHT OVER THE
PAST 24 HOURS. CONFIDENCE IS NOW INCREASING IN APPRECIABLE RAINFALL
FOR AREAS SOUTH OF THE MA TURNPIKE THU INTO THU NIGHT...BUT PLENTY
OF UNCERTAINTY REMAINS.

THE MAIN STORY WILL BE A CUTOFF LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OFF THE MID
ATLANTIC STATES THAT WILL LIFT NORTHEAST. WE CERTAINLY NEED TO
REACT TO THE SIGNIFICANT MODEL TRENDS AT THIS POINT. THE POTENTIAL
FOR A SOAKING RAIN LOOKS MUCH BETTER SOUTH OF THE MA TURNPIKE..

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...

ANOMALOUS UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL BUILD OVER THE NORTHEAST STATES
PROVIDING DRY WEATHER AND UNSEASONABLY WARM AFTERNOON/S. THE MODELS
DO NOT LOOK QUITE AS WARM AS THEY HAVE THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS.
THIS IS A RESULT OF THE OCEAN SYSTEM HAVING MUCH MORE OF AN IMPACT
THAN EARLIER THOUGHT. STILL THINK THERE IS A DECENT SHOT FOR LOWER
ELEVATIONS AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE COAST TO SEE HIGHS TOP OUT NEAR
80. DEFINITELY GREAT WEATHER FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WITH LOW
HUMIDITY.
