Helsinki lost its snow quickly. We still have some scattered white.

Christmas looks promising:

^^Europe 24 December: A low up there will give NW here, and in winter that only means one thing: Snow! If it persists for some time, lots of snow

You're correct! NW for Trondheim, W for Helsinki, NWW for Turku.

Or wait, NWW turning to W for Helsinki. Anyway, promising.

EC doesn't agree, though:

FYI ... all this cold air in Florida this month with 30s/40s and 50s in Miami is not showing as anything extreme. Below normal yes, but nothing worth noting as far as departures or rankings.

Typically you have to see temps greater than 20 below/above normal to see some impressive rankings. One flaw in having too many records for one station.

Couple discussions from yesterday.. Great way to learn about weather, read NWS discussions

Orlando.

DRIER AIR AND FAVORABLE RADIATIONAL COOLING CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE
TO CREATE CHILLY CONDITIONS IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS MONDAY AND
TUESDAY WITH TEMPS STARTING OUT IN THE 40S MOST LOCATIONS. THEN
SLIGHTLY MORE MILD TEMPS TUES NIGHT/WED MORNING WITH LOWS IN THE
LOW/MID 50S...EXCEPT UPPER 40S ACROSS NORMALLY COLDER INTERIOR AREAS
SOUTH OF ORLANDO

Tallahassee

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TALLAHASSEE FL
752 PM EST Sat Dec 13 2014

.Near Term [Through Tonight]...

We remain locked into a stable weather pattern as the mid-upper
level flow across much of the CONUS was an omega block. The latest
NWP guidance consensus is very close to our afternoon forecast
package, as we anticipate another in a string of cool nights.
Lows will be near freezing across the normally coldest interior
locations east of the Apalachicola/Chattahoochee Rivers, and mid
30s west. Widespread frost is also likely.

Mobile Alabama

SHORT TERM (TONIGHT AND SUNDAY)...A STRONG SURFACE RIDGE OF HIGH
PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD OVER THE CENTRAL GULF STATES THROUGH
SUN AFTERNOON. AS RESULT EXPECT MOSTLY CLEAR LATER TONIGHT AND EARLY
SUN RESULTING IN ANOTHER COLD MORNING EARLY SUN.

I hope so, a repeat of 2011-2012 would be excellent.

Love seeing those maps how it swoops down across the Gulf.
