I don't know records for my very area and precpitation may have a big geographical variability in Estonia, especially in summer (one village has a heavy rain, the neighbouring village has no rain at all). Estonian record is 148 mm with one day at 4.07.1972; village of Metsküla on the island of Saaremaa.

Rainiest month was August 1987 with 351 mm in a month, on the South Estonian highland. There is a bit specific, uplands climate, though.

May 1-2, 2010. It started raining at about 7am the morning of Saturday, May 1. The last rain was around 8pm on Sunday, May 2. Total rain was 6.32 inches on May 1 and 7.25 inches May 2; 13.57 inches total. I actually remember this flood well. It was a 1000 year flood.

May 1 was prom day (I was a junior in high school). I had waffled about going, but on Wednesday, April 28 I finally decided to go. On May 1 during the day we got my suit and hair cut. It was pouring rain what seemed like all day (weather records show rain, almost unceasingly heavy, between 8am and 7pm. It was the heaviest rain I had ever seen.

Prom time comes. During prom time, the rain stops, then around 10pm another thunderstorm comes through. At about 10:15pm the lights went out for about a minute.

My dad picks me up at 11:45pm. The rain was light at this time. He has a 2001 Toyota Highlander. On our way home we're on a low lying road and it's flooded. My dad goes through the water (about 8-12" deep or so). The creeks, etc were rising and he said that 30 minutes later and we would have got stuck.

The next morning, again around 7am, the rain started again, and finally ended around 8pm. I was posting Facebook statuses as I got the updated rain totals.

Here goes. In quotes are the exact words I posted four years ago.

May 2, 1:29pm: "There's been 11.90 inches of rain so far at the Nashville weather station in this ONE storm system."
May 2, 4:31am: "It's raining cats, dogs, frogs, cows, pigs, giraffes, trees, harps, SEGA systems, and water. (Parts of the preceding statement are exaggerations)"
"5.93 inches of rain so far today. May 1, 2010 6:05pm."
"5.79 inches of rain so far today - May 1, 2010 5:08 pm"
"5.56 inches of rain so far today - May 1, 2010 4:00 pm"
"5.01 inches of rain so far today. - May 1, 2010 3:26pm"

And an ironic one:
April 30, 2010 11:41pm: "So, apparently, showers now bring flowers in a few minutes?" - We had no idea a record breaking flood was going to happen.

The three wettest days for Raleigh, NC seem to be October 1, 1929 with 5.96 inches, August 24, 1908 with 5.70 inches, and June 14, 2006 with 5.64 inches.

The October 1 rainfall was probably from the 1929 Bahamas hurricane and the June 14 event was from Tropical Storm Alberto. The August 24 event could have been associated with a flood in South Carolina around that time.

327.6 mm (12.90 in) of rain fell in the CBD in 24 hours in August 1986.

Glad I wasn't alive back then. Also glad that nobody drowned.

Monday, September 8th, 2014 was the wettest day here in Phoenix, AZ, due to torrential tropical downpours from Hurricane Norbert. 3.6 inches of rain fell at my home, with 3.27 inches recorded officially at Sky Harbor. The highest total in Metro Phoenix for the day was a hair over 6 inches in Chandler.
