I vote seattle, as it has warmer summer highs than coastal la.
did you see the links i provided? no Beach city is cooler than Seattle, the only cooler ones are weather stations atop piers (SaMo, and Huntington) about 1,000 ft into the ocean.
Honolulu. Even in the winter, downtown LA has an average high in January of 20C. Seattle in January has a high of 8C. Honolulu has an average high of 27C in January. Forget about the summer, obviously LA is closer to Honolulu.

I vote Seattle. Technically they are both Csb climates under Koppen whereas Honolulu
is tropical. LA is Mediterranean, not tropical. Seattle is sort of like a Med./marine hybrid.
LA's beaches definitely feel cooler than Seattle in the summer. Might be the partly windchill but there's no question. The beaches don't even feel much warmer than SF.
I'd pick Honolulu as not only do we get the cold rain from the Artic that Seattle does during the winter, we also have the El Nino influence when the "Pineapple Express" comes in from Hawaii during the winter giving us warm rains. We also get the warm and humid monsoonal storms from Mexico and the Gulf that Seattle doesn't get that gives L.A. a tropical feel in the Summer.
Seattle gets Pineapple Expresses. In fact I think the term was coined in the PNW.
Neither! I live in the Seattle area currently. I lived in Los Angeles & Orange Counties on the coast. I have spent quite a bit of time in Hawaii, mostly on islands other than Oahu. But, really! They are three distinct types of climate.

I think it's closer than you think because the overnight lows in the L.A. basin are much colder than Honolulu ever gets. L.A. basin has average lows in the 40s throughout and they drop into the 30s inland after a cold front. Honolulu's overnight lows hardly ever get lower than 65 in winter.
Also bear in mind that temperature is only one consideration. I'm talking about precipitation, humidity, and vegetation patterns as well. There is no doubt that L.A.'s climate is closer to Seattle's than it is to Miami's even though the average daily highs in winter are closer to Miami's.

You must have been here in 2010 when we had that awful cool and gloomy summer or during some really bad June gloom some other year. Normally our beaches are much nice than that, especially in August or September. This year we even had some humid days with temperatures in the low 90s at the coast and SST in the 70s.
In summer, we can get beach weather (talking about air temperatures and not SST) that can either resemble Seattle or Honolulu.
