Southern California has had warmer than normal SST throughout the summer and it looks like it will continue into the rest of fall, all winter, and possibly even spring.

How do you speculate its going to effect our winter?

Above normal temperatures will but we'll get above normal rainfall due to the pineapple express bringing rain from Hawaii and the warm SST enhancing cold fronts to make them more "juicy"?

Or is it possible the drought will get even worse by sending all the rain north of us. We still haven't had any rain this fall and normally get one or two rain events in October.

Long range forecast calls for both above normal temperatures and above normal precipitation this winter. The two wouldn't normally pair because above normal rain is associated with either the cooler side or normal or below normal temperatures for us and our climate.

Can someone with a more technical background in meteorology try to fill me in.

The only layperson I know that might have an answer to that would be Cambium. We did have an actual National Weather Service meteorologist that used to post on here, DaninEGF.
