Didn't see a thread for this, apologies if one exists.

Fairly typical oceanic climate, one of the cooler places in Australia. A few degrees cooler than the state capital Melbourne year-round. No figures for sunshine hours but I imagine it's less than Melbourne's if anything.

The link isn't working...

EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballarat#Climate

Winters are too cool and drizzly. Summers seem pleasantly crisp, but I'm guessing they'd suffer from extreme fluctuations (40C heat one day, 19C rainy weather the next - not my kinda thing).

I wouldn't say it's a "typical" oceanic climate as the humidity levels (and rainfall) are very low in the summer (kinda akin to Seattle and Portland). The climatic pattern seems borderline Mediterranean with a semi-arid flavour too. I think Ballarat is transitional.

I give it a C- for having dry summers with comfortable temps.

Yep, it dries up a bit during summer but it's no less than what Seattle or Portland get, and I've never heard of either of them described as anything but oceanic. Almost 700mm seems a bit of a stretch for semi-arid too, don't you think?

That's why I said "flavour". Not to mention, its low summer humidity seems akin to many 'semi-arid' and Mediterranean climates.

Even Seattle isn't that dry-aired.

Flavour seems overblown as well. This is a place that gets 166 days of rain a year Maybe it has a wet semi arid flavour.

C+ for me. Okay, but those rain days seem awfully high

Nah, you're right. I will stick with "Mediterranean flavour"...

Portland and Seattle aren't Oceanic as their summers are dominated by the subtropical high.

A key feature of Oceanic climates, is that weather patterns throughout the year, are considered a continuation of the same, only changing in intensity. The PNW fails that requirement.

I don't see Mediterranean flavour working either. My climate gets less rain days in summer, as well as a greater reduction from winter to summer rainfall, but I don't see it as having a Mediterranean flavour.

Better to just call Ballarat what it is -an Oceanic climate, with a drying trend in summer, very common amongst Oceanic climates
