Downtown LA seems to have January highs in the 60s.
No USC seems to have 69 F average high winters, DOwntown LA which is warmer than USC is 70s.
here is a weather station of Commerce/Vernon which reflect the temps of DTLA much better than USC. i even think DT is slightly warmer due to bigger Urban heat island effect.
I'm just going by Wikipedia. USC, LAX, and even Canoga Park in the San Fernando Valley all seem to be in the 60s in January. And of course the beaches are even cooler. Anyway, I'm not arguing that LA has a very mild and pleasant winter - of course it does!

beaches... what do you think LAX is, you think its a Valley? LAX is as cool as it gets, unless you are on a pier, or atop water.
I meant on the beach. The weather station at LAX has to be at least a mile from the water. Anyway, like I said, downtown is in the 60s, some stations in the Valley are even in the 60s, the beaches are in the low-mid 60s.
Definitely more like London. Even summers in the Pacific Northwest, while dry are rather cloudy and while not humid like back east, muggier than people give them credit for. June and September get decent rainfall too, it's only about 8-11 out of 52 weeks of the year that are dry.

Cloudy compared to what?
London percentage possible sunshine:
July:45%
August: 48%
Portland percentage possible sunshine:
July: 70%
August: 68%
Maybe you meant cloudy compared to a really sunny place like Denver...but nope, pretty similar -- even though Seattle is on the ocean and Denver is semi-arid:
Denver percentage possible sunshine
July:71%
August: 72%
Or maybe you meant compared to other large US cities in the northern/mid tier:
NYC percentage possible sunshine
July: 59%
August: 63%
