Dunkirk, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a about 30 miles SW of Buffalo, NY which is Dfb
Buffalo, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lake Erie's influence actually makes Dunkirk Cfa under Koppen

I have to say that the climate in this area is slightly milder than surrounding areas, there is a narrow strip of land there within 3-4 miles of Lake Erie where you see alot of vineyards and orchards, plus there are some subtle vegetation differences in this area (Very little eastern Hemlock compared to nearby areas which seems to require a D climate, and more Tuliptrees and flowering dogwoods which like Cfa climates)

Compare to Jamestown 25 miles away and inland Jamestown, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jamestown has much cooler lows and is definitely Dfb

I love finding these Great Lakes climate anomalies.

I think Dunkirk is the northernmost Cfa climate in North America. It is a few miles north of Amherstburg, Ontario and Boston, MA I believe.

So technically, part of the snowbelt of Western New York and Orlando, Florida are in the same climate zone

Actually, the place I grew up in Grand Island, NY, (it's in the Niagara River between Buffalo and Niagara Falls) actually qualifies as Cfb. 14072, Grand Island, New York Weather Averages | Monthly Average High and Low Temperature | Average Precipitation and Rainfall days | World Weather Online

If so, that is pretty cool! I always tell my friends on the East Coast that the Great Lakes are more like oceans than lakes!

How is that Cfa climate? For two months mean temp is below 0 degrees Celsius.

The same goes with this one. Mean temperature in winter here is too low to count that as Cfb. Its continental with hot summers as well as Dunkirk.

I'm just saying technically, using Koppen's definition. The Jan Mean in Dunkirk is -2.5C and July mean is 22C. Which would make it either Cfa or Cfb

Grand Island has a Feb Mean of -3C and a July mean of 21.5C.That is Cfb.

I know both barely meet these benchmarks, but they do meet them.

In all honesty, I would describe the climate in both places as Humid Continental with significant maritime influence from the Great Lakes that makes it a bit milder and cloudier than areas not as influenced by the Great Lakes.
