There are lots of examples. Asia is a good one, as is South America, North America. India is pretty hot and Siberia is pretty cold, the climate of Bishkek might be a good example of a climate sandwiched between a very hot and a very cold place.
Very continental like the Midwestern USA, Great plains of the USA, Canadian prairie Provinces and much of Inland & Eastern Asia.
Minneapolis & Chicago has cold winters and warm to hot summers in the Midwest:
The cold region is the Canadian Northern Interior and the warm region is the gulf of Mexico. Without any moderating bodies of water nearby (other than the great lakes which as little effect on the climate) temperatures can deviate from the average with ease unlike lets say, Seattle.
Beijing & Pyongyang has hot-wet summers and Cold dry winters in Eastern Asia:
Again without any large bodies of water nearby temperatures are free to do what they like, air masses are not moderated. The Siberian high has a big impact on the climate in winter while the tropical monsoon extends northwards in summer bringing hot, humid and wet conditions.
Living near Fargo....I would concur most of the American Plains/Midwest fits the bill....as well as interior sections of other countries in the mid latitudes. Where I live we experience rapid changes at times...and no one year is similar to the next. You need to have a wide variety of clothing that is for sure.
