How many ice days do you have on average in November and for winter as a whole?

Vancouver airport averages 3.4 ice days a year and November averages 0.5 per year based on 1981-2010 averages

The downtown station a bit less due to the heat island.

Extreme cold snaps in November are rare, but certainly not unheard of. I've made note previously that the extreme cold that used to hit in January stopped in 1979. As a matter of fact, the coldest extreme event to hit BC in my lifetime occurred in November when the temperature dropped to -46.5C (-52F) in the south and -47.2C/-53F in the north. This happened in 1985.

In BC, 6 times since records began in 1873. 1985 is the only time it happened in the southern half of the province.
Years that it happened:
  • 1950, 1955,
  • 1961, 1963, 1966,
  • 1985.
