A) Brisbane: a truly proper "subtropical climate" without annoying cold snaps. Hot and humid summers with thunderstorms and drier but still mildishly warm winters. Most of the rain is warm. Humidity can be uncomfortable for some but keep the nights warm and the vegetation green. Brisbane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
B) Los Angeles: a subtropical Mediterranean climate with mild to warm to hot summers (depending on how far inland you go) and mild winters. Almost no rain in summer but moderate rain in winter. Thunderstorms are rare. Cold snaps are also not an issue because of the moderation of the Pacific Ocean. Most of the rain, however, is on the colder side of the average winter temperatures. Low humidity in summer makes hot days more comfortable for most people.
I like Brisbane better because of more rain and thunderstorms while still having warm and comfortable winters. L.A. is too dry in summer and hardly ever gets warm rain and thunderstorms. L.A. has seen temperatures well into the 90s in every winter month in most of the microclimates but Brisbane still has warmer winter averages than any L.A. microclimate and is truly frostproof even though their winter records are only in the low to mid 80s.
Tough choice.. I think it really depends where in the LA metro we're talking about. If we compare downtown to downtown then I give LA a slight edge as I really like the drier summers than Brisbane but if we compare airport stations, then I give Brisbane the edge as LAX is just too cool.
I like LA for the Mediterranean pattern, but Brisbane probably just wins for warmer SSTs and lack of any cold.
