Mostly welcome. As the ridge in the west breaks down, CA finally gets some wet weather and the trough in the east finally lifts, bringing some relief to everyone!
We got about 1.5", near as I can tell. I was hoping for more, but it's probably just as well that it was a steady, all-day light rain that soaked in instead of just running off. I'm looking forward to seeing the landscape green up.
What seems weird to us native Californians is the idea of rain in summer! Summer is for beach days and afternoons by the pool, not rain!

Glad to see that CA is getting its first good rain for the season. Hope the rainy season brings more!
Good news is that it seems the rain put out the Thomas fire in its entirety. It was right over the exact same area. They are worrying about mudslides but at least the fire is gone. Now with the rain, you'll see vegetation crop up real quick and the cycle continues!
CA really needs to start becoming "fire-wise". Sweep up all the logs and kindling at the bottom of the forest floor. Allow campers to use that to make campfires in fire pits or simply bring that to all the firepits along the coast and you'll have continuous free firewood.
There should be irrigated fire breaks now and then that only have grass. They can have football, soccer, and baseball fields on them. A good place to put them is where transmission lines go as they already have the right of way.
CA will need to do this to prevent another large scale Thomas fire in the future.
Some of those Pacific storms are a whammy. If you've ever been on the Oregon or Washington coast during one of the winter storms then you'd know what I mean. Sometimes hurricane force winds, a driving rain, large swells in the sea. It's quite scary actually.
It can't really compete with a large Gulf hurricane but I feel it can go head to head with most Northeasters... as far as wind speed, low pressure, rotation, etc...
