HUGE positive temperature anomaly setting up over the Central US and South Central Canada in the 8-14 day period as it looks right now

But before that below zero temps for Chicago coming Wednesday PM and Thursday AM

One model has Chicago in the 60's by late next week. Probably a bit too optimistic until we melt the snow pack. Interestingly the Great Plains don't have a good snow pack which will let them warm up quickly.

Spent 30 minutes scraping ice off my car when I got off work this evening! It was crazy. It was hard to even open the door at first. It was frozen solid due to freezing rain. Had to use so much de-icer. Then I get home from work and there's practically no evidence of freezing rain here. None of the cars here are totally iced over. I work over in PA. Amazing how different the weather has been.

We had a couple inches of snow in our northern suburbs yesterday, some freezing rain and sleet in the city, and rain here in the south suburbs.

Don't expect the mid March warm spell to last for eastern CONUS

And overall, week 3 through 5 will be below average as a result of MJO teleconnections

I'm in no big hurry to experience warmer temperatures. A cold March is fine with me as long as it doesn't mean the trend will reverse itself and we'll have a warmer-than-average period later in the season.
