I wonder if this will be the set up going forward into the warm season. Something is telling me that the Great Plains will be hot this summer. Hopefully it will spread into the Midwest.

Nice maps. Forgot about that site. Unless there's an unusual warm spell at the end of the month, I'm thinking Boston will have snow cover into early April while we'll be melted out.
Hmm weatherundergound is predicting much warmer for the midweek cold blast. For Wednesday, NWS has 25°F/10°F and WeatherUnderground 30°F/13°F. For Thursday, NWS has 33°F/16°F and WeatherUnderground 41°F/19°F. My guess is the weather underground is closer; melting and darker snow, together with the high sun is making the NWS predict too much cold. Forecast discussion doesn't give much detail on their thinking yet:
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...BEHIND THE ARCTIC FRONT...MUCH COLDER AIR
MOVES INTO THE REGION ON NORTHWESTERLY WINDS. TEMPERATURES WILL BE
UNSEASONABLY COLD WITH HIGHS IN THE 20S ON WEDNESDAY AND THE LOW TO
MID 30S ON THURSDAY. COUPLED WITH WINDS GUSTING UP TO 20 TO 30
MPH...IT WILL ONLY FEEL LIKE ITS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO LOW TEENS.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY...WHILE THE DETAILS HAVE YET TO BE
RESOLVED...THE MODELS ARE INDICATING A COASTAL STORM WILL MOVE UP
THE EAST COAST NEAR OR OUTSIDE THE 40/70 BENCHMARK. THIS WILL BRING
A PERIOD OF RAIN AND SNOW TO THE REGION.
Got sunny with a deep blue sky for a short time now back to mostly cloudy. Breezy often and on. Nice day to walk around.
Yup, that blue was short lived..
