Speaking of volcanoes.. Here's what Pinatubo did.

So I wonder if NASA is right that the volcanoes that have been erupting has indeed slowed the warming.

Effects of volcanoes lasts a couple of years, as your graph shows.

That isn't from NASA; it's from one study. It might be true, but it doesn't appear that it's accepted. Science research in progress often has differing ideas. NASA is just posting recent scientific research.

I don't think it's saying the globe has cooled has 0.05 to 0.12°C, they're saying the total effect of volcanic activity by itself has been to cause a cooling of 0.05 to 0.12°C. The actual temperature change is from volcanic effects combined with many other effects.

Guess what.. shocked? New NASA study says burning fossil fuels ‘COOLS planet’ . Locally and temporarily. Maybe we should keep burning more.

Climate change shock: Burning fossil fuels COOLS planet, says NASA | UK | News |

"NASA found a net cooling in the northern hemisphere due to industrial activity

Fossil fuel burning gives of aerosols which reflect sunlight

While the findings did not dispute the effects of carbon dioxide on global warming, they found aerosols - also given off by burning fossil fuels - actually cool the local environment, at least temporarily.

The research was carried out to see if current climate change models for calculating future temperatures were taking into account all factors and were accurate."

Talk about masterful double speak!

If it gets warmer, it’s our fault. If it gets colder, it’s our fault.

Either way, they’ll need more funding.

That's correct.

"The small particles, or aerosols, were spewed high into the atmosphere and scattered sunlight back into space, preventing the global average temperature from rising from 0.05°C to 0.12°C. That cooling effect represents between 25% and 50% of the expected temperature rise during that period because of rising atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases.."

There are countless feedback mechanisms that contribute to climate change. Some are negative (that is, as X increases, Y decreases) and some are positive (as X increases, Y also increases). The largest uncertainties that exist with respect to anthropogenic radiative forcing are aerosols. Aerosols are currently thought of as a negative feedback mechanism. Aerosols limit surface heating by preventing incoming solar radiation from reaching the surface.

Even with the quantified uncertainty of aerosol induced cooling, the sum of all sources of anthropogenic radiative forcing is still positive.
