Hard to believe, but naming Hurricanes isn't that old of a concept

When they first started doing this I was unsure about it, but it really does make the storms easier to remember. There's quite a few major winter storms that I've either forgotten about completely or have conflated with an entirely different storm. "February 30th, 2099 blizzard" just sounds dumb, who can remember that? Especially if there's two or three other winter storms that season. We could have just one snowstorm in a season and I still won't remember the date after a few days.

Here's the problem, with named storms your insurance deductible goes up from a set $XXX amount to a percentage amount of the damage, typically 25%.

Yup. Plus easy to look up year then go through alphabet to find the storm and their summary. A lot of storms such as current one Ajax woudnt of even been known to happen if it wasnt named. At least now we look at 2015-16 and say ohhh, yeah, first winter storm affected Kansas., ect
