Which do you prefer?

Climate of Sydney
Climate of San Francisco

San Francisco is a bit 'underweight' for its latitude - It needs higher temperatures (especially in its winters). Though its summers look beautifully pleasant and its sunshine hours are nice. Sydney can be erratic and its summers can be very hot, but at least its winters aren't that cold and long. It's a tie here, but I think I'm leaning towards SF.

SF is just too cold in the summer. However, go 40 minutes south to San Jose and it is a paradise climate.

Someone who hates rain, maybe. San Francisco is sunnier, but only in certain parts.

I prefer San Francisco because I like dry, mild conditions.

San Francisco winters are fairly typical for its latitude. Mean temperature is around 53/54°F (12°C).

San Francisco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Same latitude in Europe has similar or slightly cooler winters. Córdoba has slightly warmer highs but colder nights, with colder means by about 2°C

Córdoba, Andalusia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Palermo on the Meditterean is warmer not by much. And that area must have the warmest winters anywhere for its latitude:

Palermo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And of course any continental or east coast climate has cooler winters than San Francisco at the same latitude, but that's expected. Sydney is not the same latitude as San Francisco, it appears higher latitude due to its mild summers and temperate rainfall pattern but it's rather low latitude. Its the same latitude as Southern California. Melbourne is at the same latitude as San Francisco. Winters are colder than San Francisco.

San Francisco has cold summers for its latitude due to the cold Pacific Ocean. But not winters. When I visited in the winter, a breeze off the Pacific made the weather warmer, except at dry mid afternoons. The giant A/C turned on again...

San Francisco is "underweight" only in summer. Its winters are warmer than Athens.
