Seems like summers are about the same, but Bakersfield is warmer the rest of the year especially at night. Makes sense as there's not as much difference in solar heating by latitude in the summer and colder air from the west, north and east is blocked by mountains.

Other ones are Tortosa in Spain and Budva in Montenegro.
Redding might have the hottest average daily highs annually, as the western US tends to get cool nights. Capri has an average high of 69°F, Redding 75°F. Rather have the western European climates, Redding's afternoon temperatures are too much. In the mountains to the west of Redding, there's this wacky climate:

WEAVERVILLE RANGER STN, CALIFORNIA - Climate Summary

Afternoon temperatures are almost as hot as Redding, nights much cooler.

Red Bluff CA, a bit south of Redding at 40N, has a 75.4F average high (1981-2010), practicly the same as Redding though.

And above 70 °N there aren't many cities because it gets too cold.
I prefer to use the annual mean, which includes all seasons, as well as day and night.
By annual mean:
The warmest city in the world above 60 °N is probably Bergen (annual mean ca 8°C)
Warmest city inside the Polar Circle is Bodø (ca 5°C)
Warmest city above 70°N is probably Hammerfest (ca 2°C)

I've spent time in Redding in summer and yeah, it's brutal. There are mountains on three sides and they trap all the heat which causes the city to just bake. In very hot summers getting stretches of 115-120F for several weeks is not uncommon. Redding sucks unless you love heat for 6ish months out of the year. Winters can be pretty cold too and snow isn't uncommon each winter. I am not a fan of Redding at all

I like Redding, but yeah it gets HOT in the summer. Didn't someone at some point make a list of the hottest cities at each latitude? If so, could someone link me to it please?

Also, Redding is supposedly significantly hotter in summer than Sacramento and sunnier overall. I buy the first one, but I'm skeptical of the second one.
