Do you have any wieldy data, were there any months in Longyearbyen not above average in 2014 and how were deviations there in 2013?
All months in 2014 at Svalbard Airport /Longyearbyen were warmer than the old 1961-90 normal.

January 11.2c above normal and as I mentioned, February 14.5c above.
Here is data for Svalbard Airport /Longyearbyen 2014 (Source: yr.no). Last air frost in summer was June 19., and first frost in autumn September 2.

All months in 2013 was above the normal. January 7c above normal. Mean annual in 2013 was -3.5c, mean annual in 2014 was -2.1c.
All months above the normal also in 2012, mean annual -1.7c in that year. January more than 10c above normal.
In 2011, January was only 0.1c above the normal, but still all month above average, Dec almost by 7c.
Generally, the largest positive deviations are in winter. Much sea ice has melted, so more open sea in winter.
Last month colder than normal was November 2010, however only 0.7c colder than normal.

^^Rozenn: Seems I was in Paris at the warmest days of the year...a bit too warm those two days, but pleasant the other days.

Here is mean annual temperatur from 1838 - 2014 for Oslo. According to the resarchers, it is a high quality serie.
It shows the warming trend, and how warm 2014 was. The coldest year was the very first year, 1838.
Interesting, this article also mention that the cold record in Oslo was recorded one of the first years: -29.6c in January 1841. The article also states that it is unlikely that such cold temperatures could be recorded in Oslo again. The cold winters of 2009/10 and 2010/11 only manages a 25th and 28th place in the list of the coldest winters. The coldest winter was 1870/71.

For reference, the 1981-2010 normals:
Spoiler

January was cold (-7.4F/-4.1C) and dry. The -9/-18 (-23/-28) day on the 6th was the coldest in years, and it was also windy with a wind chill reaching -43F/-42C. No large snowfall days and no thaws. Snow cover ranged from 5 to 8 inches (13 to 20cm).

February was again very cold (-10.9F/-6.1C) and quite sunny, even though 16 days had a trace or more of precipitation. The cold days weren't windy, coldest windchill was -21F/-29C on two days. Snow cover ranged from 5 to 11 inches (13 to 28 cm.) The most memorable weather of the month was thunder and heavy rain, like a summer downpour, on the 20th when it was only 2C. The month was the 2nd coldest on record for the airport station (1948-current), 1979 was a degree colder. The older city station had some years that were much colder, 1875 being the coldest at 3.21F (-16.0C).

March was cold (-6.3/-3.5C) , the -8F/-22C low on the 3rd was very cold for March, as is the -20F/-29C windchill that morning. Snow cover peaked at 11"/28cm and lasted until the 17th.

April was average (-1.2) and wet, +1.73"/44mm, last frost was the 23rd. The snow came on the 14th though 5 other days had a trace. The warmest day was the 20th during a brief warm spell. 9th wettest on record.

May was warm (+2.4F/1.3C) with average precipitation. No frost, no days above 90 (32C), and every day reached 50F/10C.

June was warm (+3.4F/1.9C) and the second half of the month was much warmer and more humid than the first. Very wet, 5th wettest on record about 5" above normal. June precipitation has been erratic the last few years, with 0.31"/8mm in 2012 (driest on record) and 10.86"/276mm in 2013 (2nd wettest). Every day reached 70F/21C. Dew point peaked at 75F and averaged 59 (24C, 15C) but the highest heat index was a mediocre 93F/34C.

July was cool (-2.4F/-1.3C) and dry, 7th driest on record, and only 0.05" from the 16th to 31st. The hottest day was 93/71 (34/22) and the dew point of 75 that afternoon led to a heat index of 103 (39C). The rest of the month was near average.

August was near average (+1.8F/1.0C) and wetter than normal. A nice storm came on the first, changing from 84F/29C with light winds at 16:53 to 63F/17C with 44mph (71kph) wind, heavy rain, hail, and thunder at 17:30. Near the end of the month there were four days where the dew point stayed above 20C, two of the days saw heat indices above 35C.

September was average (-0.4) and dry. An early cold wave made a high of just 47F/8C with drizzle on the 12th, which probably was a record for the date. A late warm front (3 straight highs of 82F/28C) ended abruptly with a cloudy high of 10C the next day.

October was average (+1.0) and wetter than normal, but only three days reached 20C...the 1st, 2nd, and 27th. The first frost was on the 11th and the first accumulating snow was on the 31st.

November was cold (-6.1F/-3.4C), coldest since 1996. There were 14 ice days and only three days had highs reach 55F/13C. 23 days saw a trace of precipitation, 16 a trace of snow, 7 saw snow accumulation. 13 days with snow cover and a maximum snow depth of 5".

December was warm (+5.4F/3.0C) and nearly snowless (0.1"). Every day from the 5th to the 28th was at or above the average temperature. Cloudy too, 14 straight days recorded at least 8/10 cloud cover and 18 at least 7/10. Just three nights in below 10F/-12C, November had 6. 17 days saw a trace of precipitation but only 6 were measurable.

I don't have sunshine statistics, but here's the average sky cover from sunrise to sunset (out of 10) and number of thunderstorm days each month. The total sunshine for the year was probably about normal (54%).
January 6.0 and 0
February 4.6 and 1
March 5.9 and 0
April 6.4 and 6
May 5.8 and 7
June 6.2 and 10
July 5.1 and 4
August 5.8 and 10
September 4.7 and 3
October 6.3 and 2
November 7.1 and 0
December 7.6 and 0

Total of 43 thunderstorm days.

Helsinki Airport during this so called "warm epoch". Doesn't convince me:

June precipitation has skyrocketed.

Turku Airport 2014:

Impressive cold snap in March, June and December. Impressive bipolarity in May and August.

I just checked the UAH climate data.

2014 was the 3rd warmest year on record at 0.27 C above the mean. The only years that were warmer were 1998 at +0.42C and 2010 at +0.40.

If we break things down further, it was the 3rd warmest year in the northern hemisphere, 4th warmest in the southern hemisphere, 8th warmest in the tropics, 4th warmest in the north polar region, 16th warmest at the southern polar region, 21 warmest in the Lower 48 States, 8th warmest in the USA if we include Alaska, and 7th warmest in Australia. There are 36 years of data.

The one place on earth that did see the warmest year on record was the northern hemisphere oceans between the tropics and arctic circle.
