There was a thread for school closings for heat so I figure we have one for the cold.

Do your schools close or delay for the cold weather?

This week there have been many closings and delays. Please post yours or if you heard of any.

Minnesota Schools close because of the cold

Vermont and NY schools closed/delayed

Maryland, Virginia schools closed/delay

Chicago Tribune: Toughen up kids; Cold is a lousy excuse to close schools

Here's the current temps on left and what it feels like on right. Keep in mind these aren't the lows and it was colder for Midwest yesterday.

Why does the polar vortex always 'pick' on the east coast?

Weather usually flows from west to east. In eastern North America, it's often northwest to southeast in the winter. Occasional easterly flow can cause cold snaps in the Pacific Northwest but they're not as severe.

Hmm, hard to imagine having schools there. Doubt they need the education in that frozen wasteland. Don't they all just become ice fishermen anyway?
