For Canada, parts of coastal BC get over 260 days without frost, even on the north coast. Green Island at 54.56861111N averages 262 days of frost-free weather. The Vancouver airport averages 237 days of frost-free weather.

At the other end of the spectrum, Alert, Nunavut averages 5 days without frost.

In BC, some communities in the northwest (namely around Iskut) average under 20 days without frost, and areas of the Chilcotin in the central interior plateau average similar (places like Anahim Lake).

Note: Frost-free is defined as the period that the temperature stays above 0C/32F.

Where do you get the stats for small towns like Iskut? Does EC produce stats on the frost-free period?

For NY state, the place with the longest frost-free period is probably NYC. It's generally frost-free for ~7 months, from mid April to early November (these are the average dates of the last and first frosts, respectively). LGA airport gets 300 days without frost.

The place in NY state with the shortest frost-free period is probably somewhere up in the Adirondack mountains. Some locations there see a frost-free period of only 1 to 2 months (maybe even less). I think that places like SLK airport and Old Forge get less than 150 days without frost. The nearby mountaintops may see significantly less such days (less than 100 days without frost).

For NZ, there are numerous places that are frost free, and a few in my region.

There are also numerous areas above 600-800 metres that have a reasonable chance of frost in every month - so no frost free season.

Not too far off a ground frost here the other night, with the grass temperature dropping to 3C.

When EC first posted the 1981-2010 normals back in 2013 (or was it 2012?), they posted them as a single document for download. Later, they posted the data online, but you can't sort online like you can if you would have downloaded the the single database file like I did. The online version did not include places like the two Iskut stations and most of the others along the 750 km of highway 37 because they had less than 15 years of data (this is because most of the rural and remote weather stations have closed in Canada some 20 years ago). Here is Dease Lake which is close to Iskut, but has warmer nights, and thus a longer frost-free period. Click on the frost-free data (after clicking on the "normals data", and it will tell you that Dease Lake has 51 days of frost-free.

You are correct in that LaGuardia has 65 days with a minimum at or below freezing --> 300 days (non-contiguous) freeze-free; actual length of frost-free period is 239 days, with the first/last dates being 24 Nov and 29 Mar.

Yes, I understand the difference between the two statistics.

When I posted my previous comment, I thought that the OP was asking for the former, but now I see that he is asking for the latter (i.e, Growing season). Thanks for the clarification.

In that case the longest growing season in NY state is in NYC at LGA with ~240 days.

The official weather station at which the shortest growing season is observed is undoubtedly KSLK (in the Adirondacks), for which I cannot seem to find find stats. Anyways, the growing season there is around 1 month. However, the nearby mountaintops (such as Whiteface) probably have even shorter growing seasons, very close to zero days.

Average first frost in London is late November, and the last is in late March sometime

I am not sure what the longest frost free period has been, but we have had calendar years without a frost before I am sure.

Coastal locations in the south can go without frost for an entire winter

Frosts can occur occasionally from June to September. In 2/3 of the cases we get frost free years though.

Normal frost free period is early May to late October here, though some years it is April to November.

Frosts have been recorded in the UK every month (last August had a few), the only place that can go a year without is the Scilly Isles.
