Question, are we allowed a fire place? Easily could just use a nice wood fire for the coolest nights.
No fireplace or space heater if you choose the AC option because both are means of "warming" the house. You can wear whatever warm clothing you want though.
I would choose the central heating because I would want it for the early morning hours during most winter nights (if the temperatures are expected to be below 45 F after a high less than 70 OR on an overcast rainy day in the 50s). This winter has been much warmer than normal (except for that New Year's cold snap) so used the heat less than usual.
AC is good to have during heat waves or humid spells, but most of summer heat is dry and the nights cool down well enough to open a window about 95 percent of the time even in our hottest month. Last summer was hotter and more humid than usual so used the AC more than usual in August and September. I normally just open a window at night because the daytime heat wanes after 7PM.
But these past few months have been an anomaly and I know we will return to our usual pattern eventually. This coming summer will probably be cooler than the last with more marine layer and very little, if any, monsoon moisture or humidity except for the deserts and mountains. We will see plenty of dry heat during the day inland but cool nights throughout the basin and mild days at the beaches.

The poll says central heating, you can't change it after the fact.
