Looks like the North American ridge/trough pattern that has been cooking the West and freezing the East is actually going to be moving westward (retrogressing) over the next week or so. Which will likely be good news for all.
Is this a common phenomenon? I seem to always think of storms coming from the west, surfing the jet stream. I have not paid a much attention to the actual wave patterns in the jet stream. Do they often move westward, eastward, or? I am embarrassingly ignorance on this pattern.
Hmm. The center of cold was on New England last weekend and earlier, seems like to have shifted west as you said. I don't think it's a common pattern but could be wrong.
