How cold has the 1st week of May been?

Well..... It's been 80+ yrs since the Avg Max temp was this cold in Hartford, NYC, Boston & Philly.

99 years for Hartford, NYC and Boston.

You have to go back to 1917 for a colder max temp avg 1st week of May. Impressive!

So yeah, none of us have experienced these daytime temps 1st week of May. Thank the 7 days of clouds mostly for that.

Cape Kiglapait, Newfoundland & Labrador, averaged -7.7C/18.1F in 2015. That's the coldest year ever recorded anywhere in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador!

In 142 yrs of records only 5yrs failed to hit 80°F in Philly May 1-21. This year is one of them.

WHOA AGAIN.

In 144 yrs of records only 2yrs failed to hit 80° in DC May 1-21. This yr was one. RARE not to hit 80s in May yet

Slåtterøy lighthouse is located on the Norwegian coast south of Bergen (ca 70 km as the crow flies) and north of Stavanger at ca 60°N. There is a weather station there.
This is the place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sl%C3%...B8y_Lighthouse

This data from the weather station there has been digitalized and are available in the database at met.no for those with account, like me.

Record high is 30°C / 86°F from late June 1947.
But look at this statistic: The three coldest lows in every month for the 90 - year period 1924-2015.

Source:/ credit: eKlima
Coldest low these 90 years is only -12.6°C / 9.3°F from Jan 1987. At 60°N...
No freezes in May since the one very rare cold snap in 1955. And no freezes in October since 1926!!

Even Shetland has recorded freezes in June and September, and has a colder record high.

I did the same for Skrova in Lofoten well inside the Arctic Circle, here: //www.city-data.com/forum/weath...erages-14.html
