April 2015 Rain Totals at several city/eastern suburb sites:
Observatory Hill (city): 366.8mm - highest since 1989 (368.4mm)
Botanic Gardens: 406.1mm - highest since 1927 (455.1mm) and the second highest total since records commenced in 1885.
Randwick: 400.6mm - highest since 1988 (487.4mm); second highest total; records from 1888.
Airport: 349.0mm - highest since 1988 (476.2mm); second highest total; records from 1929.

Monthly report from BOM: Sydney in April 2015
April 1923, despite the high number of rain-days, recorded just 240mm so this month is quite significant. Some sites in the west broke their April records by significant margins.

Periods of heavy/torrential rain here over the last few hours with about 30mm falling since 9am today and also early yesterday (Friday) morning with nearly 40mm falling to 9am .

Definitely not looking forward to the arrival of horrid icy and windy westerly weather from next Wednesday

Meanwhile the NP values could be estimated by using a subtraction at least as large as that available at Paraparaumu where both kinds of measurement continue. The 30-hr difference for January at PPU would give an NP result of about 325 hrs which is credible and slightly less than the old January record of 328. However it is very clear that sunshine measurement is a low priority with many met. agencies these days.
Clear example is Feb. 2015 when NP - supposedly - recorded "280 hours" and AKL 185. I know that NP usually records a bit more sunshine than AKL but by a margin of nearly 100 hours doesn't sound feasible to me because other nearby western sites measured similar sunshine hours to AKL and the NP site is the only site that stands out for being too sunny - even, at times, beating Gisborne and HB in westerly flows - which is unbelievable because as we know, the east of the NI gets the best of the weather in W flows whereas NP (in the west) does not so that's why I am overtly suspicious of the high sun readings there.

Although Feb 2015 was sunny for western areas, the difference values for the "pairs" at Paraparaumu, Greymouth and Hokitika (these last 2 show as big an "increase" as at NP after a few years of assessment but no publicity as they are too low on the list to threaten the genuine contenders) suggest an adjusted NP value about 20-30 hours less.

An EWS has appeared at Trentham racecourse in the Hutt - although the Wallaceville records have always been compromised by nearby hills I expect the Trentham site to duly show unrealistically high values ...

Yeah, is the first heavy snowy day of the snow season there.
And there in BA is also chilly. Right now only 16ºC, coldest day of the year so far. I'm loving it

After having the warmest April on record in Buenos Aires (tied), some decent lows came up.
Some minimums on May 4th in the BA Metro Area:
Aeroparque: 8.0ºC (it always sucks, its just on the coast)
Central Observatory: 5.8ºC
Ezeiza Airport: 4.5ºC
Merlo: 2.6ºC
El Palomar: 1.8ºC

Yet, the daily highs have been fairly warm. This night might be cooler.

And finally lowland Patagonia recorded this morning a good amount of subfreezing figures, including:
Paso de Indios: -9.1ºC
Río Grande: -8.2ºC
Río Gallegos: -8.0ºC
El Calafate: -6.4ºC
Río Turbio: -6.4ºC
