For Melbourne, it looks drier and warmer, which is good.
Below average so far, so not sure if this prediction is right. 31°C tomorrow which will most likely be the highest high for the month.

Another chilly morning, with another light dusting of snow on the tops. Summer's spell is well and truly broken.

A photo of passing showers this morning. Got 6mm.

The sudden drop in temps all the more noticeable after the first 14-15 days of the month showed a substantial positive anomaly over almost the entire country.

34.1°C today. A last burst of heat before the cooler weather takes over.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least one more, but it's been a pretty mild month for you overall - this was only the second 30+ day of the month compared to seven last March.

The last few Marches have been quite warm, so a mild one was inevitable I guess. What was surprising was the temperatures in outback QLD which caused this heat - up to 47°C in Birdsville!!

Birdsville Ap daily temperature and rain summaries

They beat their own high temp record for March TWICE this year. Crazy.

Marambio Station in Antarctica recorded today a high of 17.4ºC, becoming:

- The highest temperature ever recorded in Marambio (previous one being 16.5ºC).
- The highest temperature ever recorded in an Argentinian Antarctic Station (17.0ºC in Esperanza).
- The highest temperature ever recorded in Antarctica with the exception of Oceanic Islands located south of the parallel 60ºS, hence arbitrarily under the Antarctic Treaty.

Especifically, the highest temperature below 60ºS was 19.8ºC, recorded in Signy Station, South Orkney Islands, located barely south of the parallel 60ºS and far from Mainland Antarctica. Nowhere else has beaten Marambio's new mark.. Even though Marambio is also located in an island, it's found close in the Southeast of the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.

What happened??
An anomalous high pressure system settled over Tierra del Fuego, carrying *warm* air from the north to the Antarctic Peninsula. Once it went through the elevations of the Antarctic Peninsula, it descended as foehn wind to the area where Marambio Station is located.
A historical day for climatology.

The record only lasted some 12 hours... this morning, due to foehn winds as always, Esperanza Station got to 17.5ºC. Now we have a new record for Mainland Antarctica. Let's see if this mark can be surpassed during this day...

All these crazy records being broken! The Antofagasta picture is surreal, they probably don't have gutters due to the low average rainfall, hence the ridiculous flooding.

And the warmest temp in Antarctica broken twice in the same day! Unreal!
