First day of Autumn today -yikes!

Went for a swim at a local beach. Hot with no wind. Only about 5-6 weeks of swimming left now, had about 120 days so far.

Certainly does not feel like autumn today, 38C at Newcastle Airport and Maitland.(my nearest stations).
Southerly Buster came in late, did not have quite the same impact as in Sydney though.

Mildly warm with seabreezes.

Cyclone Olwyn to reach Perth.

How does a Mediterranean climate get cyclones so close to its vicinity? Sydney hasn't even got cyclones, let alone northern NSW...

The creek (photo)is running low at present, with recent downpours being too brief to make a difference.

Some big rainfall totals possible in the next few days, with very big totals possible on the North Island's East Cape region , from the tail end of Cyclone Pam. Fingers crossed for a fizzer.

One of the kids had this photo of a local summer thunderstorm on their account. Summer thunder is rare here -mostly a winter thing. The kids have better luck getting photos than I do.

Think we've had the most boring weather of any city in autumn so far, mild and dry, mild and dry, though looks like it'll heat up next week before cooling back down on Friday.

Much the same for melbourne, although today was interesting at least. Lowest low and highest high of the month so far were both recorded today.

Autumn hath cometh. 4C this morning, and with a fine dusting of snow on the higher peaks.

A quick 12mm of rain last night, but has sunny skies now. A 20C high, which is the coolest maximum for a while.
