July 31 - August 22? That's pretty late - I bet they had a warmer than average August. I think average lows peak in Oymyakon around July 5-10 or so.

Like you say, August had record warmth while July was below avg.

Here's data for:

June 2017

July 2017

August 2017

It looks like July 12 had a record high, but wow at July and August being basically the same temperature in a part of the world where August is a rapidly cooling month. It looks like August didn't even have a single high below 60 F / 16 C.

Another interesting observation is that every single day of the year has been below freezing at least once. Period of record is at least since 1943.

Looking at September and October 2017, they both stayed above average. The last time that Oymyakon went above freezing was October 2, but the first time they had a high below freezing was October 3. This means that every day in the fall on or before October 2 reached above freezing, whereas every day from October 3 and later has stayed below freezing.

Every day from April 20 to October 2 had an above freezing high. April was 4.1 C above average at -9.5 C.
