2002 was an extremely humid summer here as well with 51 days at or above 70F/21C at ORD.
The closest NWS Station to my house recorded 57 days at or above 70F/21C dew points in 2002
Interesting. I spent all of summer 2002 (excluding the weekends) outdoors at summer camp. I must have been rather acclimatized to the heat and humidity, as I don't recall any specific period being especially bad (including the previous two summers). August 18, 2002 was a Sunday, so I was probably indoors. The dew point was pretty extreme here that day, too. 78F was the maximum dew point.

For some reason I can't recall specific dates in the past before computers were popular, but I do remember things in general and even years sometimes. We didn't have A/C growing up so some things are stuck in my mind. Days not wanting to be outside in summer and rather play video games in front of a fan set on max. I remember sleepness nights not able to sleep upstairs so I would sleep downstairs. Windows open through the night trying to get a breeze inside wasn't happening.
Bottom line, I do remember the days of high dew points and heat, I wish I remember the actual days so I can look back now at what I experienced.
I might have to do some meditation and dig deep into the mind. lol

I remember summer 2002 well.
From late june to late july was very hot.
Most days 35-36C with high humidity, humidex 40-45C range.
I went on a vacation in early july and could not escape the heat.
Above 32C almost everywhere I went...
Thunder Bay
Winnipeg (very humid)
Medicine Hat (very hot 37-38C)
Valley City, North Dakota
Cedar Rapids, Iowa (40C)
Only some relief from the heat in the mountains, I hiked in Waterton Lakes National Park (Alberta,
and Glacier National Park (Montana).
Even in the Rockies it was 27-29C
Why are you up north, just to get away from the nasty heat down south? How long will you be up there for?
I might have to plan an impromptu trip myself if this heat doesn't break soon.
I'm going because one of my cousins is getting married. My stepdad is also showing me Michigan, where he spent some of his life. It's just luck that it happened to be during the heat wave.

I think since my weather interest has grown, I have become more capable of retaining memories of specific weather events or conditions. At that time, it wasn't a hobby of mine; and I was only twelve years old in 2002, so the young age contributed to my lack of full memory. In the same year, I can remember rehearsing for my sixth grade graduation ceremony outside in absolutely miserable midday early summer heat & sun (and I can remember that one of my female classmates fainted due to the heat during the rehearsal). That may actually be the strongest unpleasant heat memory I have, but it was very long ago and is an incomplete memory to me now.
I guess that first station is located close to Lake Ontario?
I live in Burlington (SW suburb of Toronto, 50 kms from Toronto, population 180,000)
Burlington has two main "official" weather stations (just like Toronto).
One weather station is located near the lift bridge out on the end of a pier
in Lake Ontario, with very mild lows, cooler highs.
Kinda like Chicago's Northerly Island weather station.
The other Burlington weather station is located inland, by latitude/longitude
looks like it is near RBC (Royal Botanical Gardens).
It has cooler lows (though warmer than Toronto Pearson lows),
and higher highs, averaging about 1C warmer than either Toronto weather station.
Kinda like your suburb SW of Chicago has warmer average highs.
As for summer 2002, the hot streak started in june (about june23rd, lasted until mid/late july)
and if Toronto near the lake had 8 days above 30C and Pearson 15 days above 30C,
I'm guessing about 20 days for Burlington.
