It's a shame that science didn't discover the El Nino, then we would have a better name for it. Instead of "the male child".

Of course it does sound better than "the warm phase of the ENSO".

I suspect its name would be worse, not better

I've often wondered what it would be called. An event that involves much of the world's tropical ocean should have a pretty awesome name.

Isn't El Nino supposed to mean "Baby Jesus"/the Christ Child, since it usually begins around Christmas?

Of course, but the actual phrase is "the male child". If we were using the intended meaning, we would be posting in a thread called "Will the Christ child stregnthen or fade in the summer and fall of 2015?", which would be weird.

Speaking of, can anybody change that typo in the thread title? I'm sure it should be strengthen, not stregnthen.
