We got lots of thunderstorms in April, including some with strong wind and lightning. Temperatures were fairly normal and rainfall was above normal.

Earthworms rain from sky over Norway - The Local

Would that be recorded in mm?
Would the whiskers on my car be up to the task?

April this year was a very odd month. Spring is the season with the largest diurnal variation, but this April was extremely stable and dull.

Highest temperature here in Turku was 14.0C, and considering that in late April the average high is 12-13C, and the mean temp was 1C above average, such a low record high is amazing. April 2013 was very cold and we failed to reach 15C, but I looked at the April stats, and the last time before 2013 we failed to reach an April 15C was in 1997. So quite rare.
During months like these, we usually get a week's worth of 17-20C days at least, but this year - nada.
The record high in Finland was 17.1C, and while it's not unheard to fail to reach 20C (40% of years don't), the fact that the temp was recorded on the 12th tells much. Usually the record highs are reached during the last 5 days of the month. And the record was recorded in Kauhava, Ostrobothnia, 63N.
Same goes both ways, the record low of -2.5C is rather mild for an April month, only 3.6C below the average low. For comparison, last year the mean was 0.3C warmer and the records 19.5C and -6.5C.

Well, we reached 15.4C yesterday, but that was a day late.

The high was recorded on the 21st, the low on the 6th.

Highest low: 4.5C (21st)
lowest high: 4.9C (4th)
most precipitation in one day: 23.7 mm (29th)
tstorms: 0
slowfall: some slushy flurries, nothing stuck
freezes: 4 (a very low number, considering the avg low was 1.1C)
days above 10C: 15

Here's for comparison Salo, which is around 50 km from here towards Helsinki.
