No we aren't babies we cook our own food.

Are you renting an apartment?

I think it's silly that students don't cook for themselves.. after all they have to learn at some point!

There are cafes, coffee shops, a food outlet on my campus and our union bar sells hot sandwiches etc though, so I guess you could live off that if you wanted.. but it would get very expensive and repetitive.
Yeah, that's a definite difference. I guess you actually must have somewhere to cook? Dorm rooms on campus in the US don't have that. With the meal plan, you get a certain number of meals per semester, a meal being an entry into the dining hall. Usually it's all-you-can-eat.

I'll be staying in an apartment with an Asian and a black guy, it turns out. I'll have my own room, of course.

Yes they have shared kitchens. I will have my own kitchen though.

Yeah, my accommodation was a block of 58 flats, each with about 10 people per block.. and we had our own kitchen in our block with fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, kettle etc. All you can eat sounds good, but I loved first year and being able to cook when I wanted

I always found the dining halls pretty convenient. At one point, I was seriously considering doing a study abroad program in the UK, and I do remember from my research both the fact that I'd be able to get a single room and that the meal situation was a lot different. Still kind of regret not doing study abroad.

A friend I've known for almost a decade (mostly on the internet, though I did see him once in real life) from Illinois did study abroad in Ireland and met his boyfriend (now husband) over there.

The prospect of finding a cute English boyfriend while on study abroad was kind of in my mind, lol.
