Winds are ripping out there.

Current Map.. Vortex not here yet. Its over the Hudson Bay. I thought was coming down the East side of it. (Maybe that's the West Shift Granitstater pointed out?)

We're in the trough now here.

500mb Heights and Winds with 850mb Temps.

Current Wind Gusts out there. Gusting to 25mph+. Clear day in Virginia and NC except the mountains got some clouds.

^^

Not flawed. Just extreme. Europe could never get the cold or heat extremes that North America does at the same latitudes.

Much different than this January right? Since December 1st, we've had 59 days above average and only 12 days below.... #LAMEASSWINTER

Think I'm seeing lake effect clouds with a few snowflakes. Great sky! 23f with a 17 mph wind; feels like the White mountains hike I did on Saturday Jan 30. Different sky

Sun coming out but the clouds still around.

Yup, is it Lake Effect or instability stuff? We definitely have the strong flow from the Lakes for it. Just not sure. Sun in and out here. Just brought in some wood. Man, I haven't felt this great all winter. Feels so nice!! *Recharging in Progress*

Current 1pmEST temps. Clouds and 20s. Will be interesting to see Sun and Teens this weekend.

I'm enjoying the ridge of high pressure in the west. We had around 9" of snow last week in Denver. It was 65 and sunny yesterday, and didn't even get below freezing last night. The forecast calls for 50s and 60s for the next week

That ridge of high pressure has changed our extremely wet and cold winter, suddenly into a warm spring, Monday broke records here in McKinleyville at the airport with a high of 80º, 81º at our house, Tuesday was 73º and yesterday was 75º. All the pink and white flowering plums started blooming three weeks ago and are now in full bloom, so are the daffodils and narcissus bulbs. Even many of the ornamental maples are budding out, as are two of my Dawn Redwoods. Coastal far northern California has had an exceptionally wet winter this year, 145% of normal rainfall for this time of year, I have seen 40 inches so far. Our December was 18.5 inches of rain on top of November's 7 and October's nearly 4 inches. January brought us another 11 and right at the turn of February, the pattern switched from sometimes incessant rain, to only ¼ of an inch of precipitation for the first 11 days of February. We will have winter return, as long as that ridge of high pressure does not turn into that ridge of rediculously high pressure that dominated for most of our four year drought.
