The South is not uniquely cold for its latitude. This is a persistent myth. All you have to do is look at similar latitudes on the eastern sides of continents and you will see the same pattern. Obviously the only analogue that works is East Asia. Check the temps and you will see that it gets as just as cold (or colder) in China at similar latitudes. This 'cold epoch' stuff is nonsense.

So nice to have 20s and 30s in a "blowtorch" pattern. Thank God for nights. Gees.
Didn't feel like a blowtorch yesterday. The cool air / fog pooling took too long to break. Still can't understand what there is to enjoy about nights and actual prefer temperatures that cold. Dreaming of a 50°F morning this morning. Highs yesterday:

zoomed out view down to the Long Island Sound and some of Vermont:

Spoiler

Was back down to freezing soon after sunset yesterday. The slow rise in dewpoint and temperature is common in foggy morning in the summer and early fall. But with short days and weak sun it lasts till noon

similar rise in late July

Spoiler

I definitely do not prefer 50F low temperatures this time of year, perhaps in July!
Snow will be a rare commodity at this rate for the Winter.

One sure sign it's been a very mild fall and start to winter - it's almost the second week of December and 30-32 degrees at night still feels freezing to me LOL

Disgusting. That map looks more like Oct 12 or Apr 12.
