As you can see, this place averages 27 air frosts each winter, so the supposed 50-60 air frosts for a nearby poster seems very dubious to say the least.
The Castlederg data says 48 air frosts / winter and it's official data. The Derry station (Ballykelly) faces the water and is likely unrepresentative of further inland.

But Castlederp is one of the coldest stations in N.I (& holds the record for lowest ever temp) so isn't representative of the rest of N.I either...

Yet Owen apparently is much colder than that station. He says that he averages 6C/0.5C in January. Which is actually quite a lot colder than Castlederp.

Thing is how can he have accurate averages anyway? LTA's are from a dataset of a 30 year period, not 2 or 3 years that he has had a thermometer stuck too low down on his back fence...

Is it possible most stations are close to the water and inland locations poorly covered?
