It does look pretty, but the height seems a bit lacking. It'd be far better, imo, if they could add 10-15 stories to that - that'd make it a real signature building.
I guess you've gotta take what you can get, though. If it's new and shiny, it's good.
Yes, it was originally meant to be 33 stories, but as Central Helsinki has very tight height restrictions for high buildings, the Norwegian Clarion corporation had to settle for 16 stories, but gained the dock facilities instead. I wouldn't oppose higher buildings, but that 33-stories hotel would've been the only tower at that place, so it would feel very alone. There has been alotted 2 areas on the fringes of the centre where 30-story buildings are allowed, so hope we see them there.
Very nice stadium. You won't see anything like that here.

That makes sense then, if it's due to height restrictions. Hopefully they'll come up with some good plans for the 30-story towers. All this new development has got to be pretty exciting for Helsinki.
Yeah, people are pretty excited about the new stadium - I'll take some photos of it under construction later this fall or winter. They'll be using it to host our "real" football team as well - the Atlanta United FC, which launches in 2017 as well.
