That is the coldest station in N.I. And you don't live there...

Hard to tell how common May frosts are, don't feel like poking through Russian / Ukrainian climate data, especially since I can't read Cyrillic.
Yeah, honestly during late Spring/Summer more continental doesn't exactly mean more prone to frosts. Actually could mean the opposite.

Moscow has recorded freezes in June and August but not July.

Kiev is a big UHI by the wide Dnepr river, and the fertile black soil warms up impressivly fast in spring, also creating the horrible rasputitsa conditions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rasputitsa

But we have to find out! Wait.

edit: no May air frosts in Kiev since 2000. A few ground frosts, the absolute low being 0.9C. Oddly, sometimes it doesn't even go below 5C in May there.

Oddly, Moscow has almost the same exactly average low as me from December to June. Their autumn is much colder than mine, less seasonal lag. Summer precipitation max, we don't really have much of a seasonal max but winter is slightly drier. Manages to get more snow despite drier winters; less rain probably.

It wouldn't surprise me now if the UK sees more late spring/early summer frosts than a place like Ukraine. I could be wrong though.
In summer and early autumn yes, but not in spring. Also, our weather station is at 22 ft ASL.

Yeah you're colder than Owen in March-April. What about May and June? I think I read somewhere you have an avg high of 15-16 C in May?

Something happening once makes it incredibly rare, like the record breaking cold winter in 2010.

It doesn't make it common just because it has happened...

The VVC weather station is located here, so certainly not in the middle of the UHI but somewhat influenced by it. Seems that they haven't had a summer freeze since 1948 at least.

Moscow is colder than me from October to February, but already in late March their lows start to climb above us though being more continental. Their September lows are the same as mine though I'm on the coast. Sunshine is similar, but we have an autumn precipitation max and more lag. As you can see Moscow's Mays are warmer than September.

I have a lot, too much, time on my hand, so I create a climate table so we can compare Moscow 2005-2014 and Turku. Wait. The Moscow one can be seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Moscow

15.5C in May, 19.5C in June. Also keep in mind that Derry has 161 hours of sun in June, I have 276.
