I'm annoyed that people think that a place with an average high of 6c doesn't have a winter.
I get annoyed too. Temps around 5C-8C are rather wintry. In fact, they're the quintessential winter temp range for me. 11C-16C highs are still cool and wintry, but not to that degree.
I would consider highs below 5C as "subarctic". And winter doesn't have to be that cold to be considered "wintry".

Yeah definitely, below 10c is certainly winter to me. I suppose 10c could be accepted as wintry but to me it's not cold.
According to the Met Office with a 6c high alot of our highs are at 2c which to me is enough to sustain a snowpack. I can't see how 6c is not wintry...if it's not wintry then what is it? It's certainly not summer anyway.
Of course. All of them (bar Darwin) have "real" winters. These ones are not defined by the occurrence of a specific range of average temperature, but the existence of periods with clearly differentiated temperatures / sunlight angle throughout the year (I'd say anywhere outside the tropics).

LOL. So you rag on other people's winters all the time, but get butt hurt when someone does the same to you?
To answer the question, no. No city in Australia has a real winter, IMO. Yes, winter exists in these places but they're not what constitutes a "real" winter from my point of view. Of course, everything is relative.

They are wintery to us, but to someone from Finland, they are not. January in Castlederg is similar to April in Turku.
Winters below 5C being subarctic is the most absurd thing I've ever heard.

I don't think that a winter needs to be snowy to be a winter... "Winter" doesn't relates only to continental winters.
