I'm annoyed that people think that a place with an average high of 6c doesn't have a winter.
It's winter, but not a 'real' winter. The British Isles really only have 2 seasons (especially Scotland and Ireland) - spring and autumn. Or the light season and the dark season, to put it a different way.

Do you think any major city in Australia has a winter? They have a mild winter in southern coast of Victoria and a very briefly cool winter in ACT and Tasmania.
First Day of Winter = Average daily mean temperature below 5°C(41°F) for 9 consecutive days
Cold Winter = Average daily mean temperature below 0°C(32°F) for most of the season
Real Winter = Average daily high temperature below 0°C(32°F) for most of the season
Interestingly Canberra has colder lows than here in winter. Warmer highs though. I'm sure first thing on a morning feels wintry there.
At least by my standards anyway.
We don't get proper winter weather in the UK either BTW. Certainly not on the same level as much of Europe and North America.
