Nuanced!? To claim something is 'like' something then it actually has to be LIKE it otherwise it's nonsense! The simple fact is Victoria does not have a climate like the Med! It's nothing like it! You might just as well claim that New York is a Med climate because of the Summer heat there.

Are you proposing a new classification system?

Would be interested in seeing your effort.

Yeah, how about basing climate classifications on the climate? Seems reasonable to me? For example Mediterranean climates need a Mediterranean climate before being declared a Mediterranean climate? Would save a lot of confusion. :-D

What climate? - Montpellier doesn't have the same climate as Te Aviv

Exactly. Cairo is also well within the Mediterranean basin, has a strong winter rainfall bias, but few would consider it a mediterranean climate.

Yep, a real can of worms ,..... but I'm sure Easthome will be able to sort it out for us.

Or better yet what about Venice, it’s winter lows go below freezing in the winter and gets less sunshine hours than Victoria (2,037 vs 2,193.3)! And Thessaloniki in Northern Greece has pretty cold winters too with lows approaching the freezing point (1.4C in Jan)

Venice even has a modest summer rainfall bias!

I don't think anyone considers Venice to be mediterranean

No, like Cairo it's in the Mediterranean basin but few would consider it a mediterranean climate. Which shows the danger of arbitrarily picking geographically Mediterreanean climates as a standard to measure against.
